Joel is a pianist, organist, conductor, and private piano instructor from Topsham, Maine. His first and most influential piano teacher was his grandmother, and when he was fourteen years old he began his first job, sharing his gifts with his church in Arizona. While his repertoire has grown over the years, he has always maintained a position as a minister of music in churches.
As a young man, Joel’s interest in music was not limited to the piano; he sang with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus and the Arizona All-State Choir. Joel also played the violin with the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra and Tucson Junior Strings. The piano always stood out as his primary passion, and after studying with Dr. Paula Fan at the University of Arizona, he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance in 2012. His pianistic experience includes genres such as classical, jazz, rock and roll, vocal, instrumental, traditional and contemporary Christian music, and musical theatre. He has an avid passion for creating music and collaborating with fellow performers. Currently, Joel is the director of music at his local church, and he teaches a vibrant and thriving piano studio! Before coming to Maine, he served as the organist, pianist, and director of music and handbells at Valley Presbyterian Church. He was the organist, pianist, and co-director of the young adult choir at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish. Finally, he led the contemporary worship service at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Joel also served as the organist for the Green Valley Community Chorus and played piano regularly for musical theatre productions mounted by the Arizona Repertory Theatre at the University of Arizona. He has appeared as a harpsichordist and pianist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and for the past ten years has taught a vibrant and thriving piano studio in the Tucson area. Joel obtained a Master's degree in organ performance and sacred music from the Fred Fox School of Music, under the guidance of Dr. Pamela Decker. |
